Simon MacKinnon

- OBE, Co Founder

My role is to support Maurice and the be-hive team, drawing on 35 years of business and charity experience in setting up, building and running organisations and working with children..

In healthcare my experience includes working as Chairman of a company owning a large general hospital and as Chairman of a laboratory diagnostics company. be-hive shares with these healthcare organisations a commitment to clinically sound and safe programmes to address anxiety, with processes created by, and monitored by, healthcare professionals.

Making sure be-hive’s systems and our software help and support our coaches to work effectively with children and parents is also part of our DNA. be-hive Team members have contributed learnings from their experience, in my case successes and failures from building technology and digital healthcare companies and their platforms.

My work with children includes in foster care, education and in the arts/theatre. In foster care, supporting creating programmes and training which provide coaching and preparation for both the child leaving an orphanage and for the parents in their new families. In education, setting up international and bilingual schools for students aged 3 to 18, and serving on the boards of governors for four of these schools. In the arts/theatre as a Director or charity Trustee working with schools and youth to give them access to new experiences. In these organisations and in be-hive, excellence in working with both the parents and the child, in safeguarding and in secure handling of confidential data are top priorities.

I am a father of 3 children and I have watched with growing concern the increasing pressures on children and on families as a child grows up today. With COVID, lock downs and long periods of school closure, the number of children suffering from anxiety has further increased. The help available is lagging behind. The be-hive team wants to help address this with our family-centric approach to helping each child to deal with their anxiety, forward-looking and focused on building resilience so they can live their lives to the full.
